Review : In 37 years of good gear, this amp is great, a real value
I have been lucky enough to have enjoyed both the 1978 20 wpc NAD integrated amp and Roy Cizek’s legendary speakers. These were labors of love. The under rated NAD was uncolored and imaged very well. The Cizeks were an absolute delight. Balance, Sound Stage and Imaging in a well built and affordable speaker. I mention these because they became my benchmarks over the years. I am not going to get nasty about the major manufacturers that continue to market brilliantly and consistently fail to deliver either performance or value at any price, but you wouldn’t be shopping if you didn’t agree.
I didn’t need a new amp when I ran across the British review of the AS 500. I was listening to a very nice Rotel stack. The idea of a simple solution is very compelling though. Especially if there are no real sacrifices. I have always looked at Yamaha as a good workmanlike product with consistent dependability and value.
